Next Up, Gen Y: Chamber to Connect Chicago's Current and Future Business Leaders
At the October 27 Chicagoland Chamber Board of Directors meeting, thirty Gen Y guests were invited as a symbol of the future of the Chamber Board of Directors and the local business community.
They were also invited to be present when the Chamber announced the formation of its new “Emerging Leaders Group”, which is a group of young professionals, 35 years of age and younger. The Chamber’s goal with this initiative is to bring together the next generation of executives so they have a means to gather, network and obtain mentoring from some of Chicago’s current business leaders.
This plan will be put into action on Wednesday, January 17, when the Chamber will host the “Emerging Leaders Kick-off Event” at Rockit Bar & Grill. Young professionals will have the opportunity to network with some of Chicago’s most established executives, get involved with Chicagoland’s premier business organization and bring a “Gen Y” perspective to issues pertinent to the region.
Executives will have a chance meet and attract quality talent from the Chicagoland business community. They will also have an opportunity to learn what motivates Gen Y professionals, many of whom are well-versed in technology and capable of finding solutions for clients and companies through technological innovation.
As organizations continue to compete for a dwindling supply of qualified candidates, they need to focus on recruiting and retaining this young generation’s exceptional talent. With such a wide variety of career paths available, young people should seek the mentorship programs and networking groups the Chamber is working to provide. This is the first step in shaping the business leaders of the future.
