McGladrey Joins List of Companies Moving HQ to Chicago

Minnesota-based McGladrey LLP announced Wednesday it is moving its headquarters to downtown Chicago, bringing 300-500 jobs to the city in the process.

This makes the company the largest accounting firm headquartered in Chicago. There are already over 1,000 McGladrey employees in the Chicagoland area.

From the Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal:

Some of those jobs are for the firm's expanding corporate operations, jobs that may have been opened in Minnesota had the firm's headquarters remained here.

The firm said it moved to Chicago because of the city’s role as a global business hub. McGladrey Managing Partner Joe Adams has his office there, and was there even before the move.

Mayor Emanuel continues in his efforts to attract company headquarters to Chicago, a key component of his Plan for Economic Growth and Jobs. The Chamber will continue to work with the Mayor to revitalize the local economy and develop Chicago’s image as a global economic power.

Aligning with this goal, the Chamber just released a resource portal for the Tri-State Alliance for Regional Development. The Alliance will build on the Chicago Tri-State Metropolitan Area Territorial Review released by the OECD in March.
