With less than two weeks remaining in the current session of the Illinois General Assembly, lawmakers need to know of the business community’s universal support for passing meaningful reforms to the state’s pension and Medicaid systems without delay. Postponing action to stabilize and strengthen these two programs, which account for almost 40 percent of the state budget, is unacceptable and threatens the very existence of other vital programs needed to further the fragile economic recovery we so desperately need.
As Governor Quinn stated in his budget address earlier this year, “Today, our rendezvous with reality has arrived.” The Chicagoland Chamber couldn’t agree more and we urge the Governor and Leaders in the General Assembly to meet this challenge head on by rolling up their sleeves and passing pension and Medicaid reforms that are essential to economic growth and job creation for the people of Illinois. Click here to send an email to your State Senator and State Representative urging them to pass reforms now.

Jerry Roper, President and CEO of the Chicagoland Chamber, and David Vite , President and CEO Illinois Retail Merchants Association, collaborated on a letter to the editor in today’s edition of the Chicago Sun-Times. The letter applauds Mayor Emanuel for introducing the license reform ordinance and urges the Chicago City Council to pass the legislation.
Starting and operating a small business is not a simple task. The majority of small- and medium-sized businesses in Chicago face the daunting task of identifying and obtaining the licenses and permits necessary to open the doors. The time it takes equals lost opportunities to build customer loyalty and generate revenue and hire employees.

The Chicagoland Chamber stood with representatives from Illinois labor organizations at a press conference of the Illinois Revenue and Jobs Alliance to urge the Illinois General Assembly to pass gaming expansion legislation Senate Bill 1849. The legislation includes authorization for a land-based casino in Chicago.
The Chamber is a long-time supporter of a land-based casino in downtown Chicago as a way to spur economic development and grow the City's tourism and hospitality industries.
