Chamber Anticipates a Historic Evening at Tomorrow's Daniel H. Burnham Dinner

Each year, the Daniel H. Burnham Award for Distinguished Leadership recognizes a business leader with a firm commitment to civic service. Over time, it has served as an annual reminder of how our region has thrived as a result of a fully engaged business community.

Tomorrow evening, the Chamber will honor Ellen M. Costello, CEO and US Country Head of BMO Financial Corp., for her many civic contributions and outstanding leadership at the 21st Annual Burnham Award Dinner.

The dinner, sponsored by Charter One and RBS Citizens, is an excellent opportunity for the regional business community to unite with the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce to honor someone whose leadership helps shape this city and drive it into the future.

Simplifying Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity

Many businesses hear disaster recovery plan (DRP) and they think it to be an insurmountable project. While it will certainly take some thought, work and time to develop and maintain a DRP the alternative of hoping your business simply avoids the disaster bullet is neither practical nor responsible.

Depending on the size and complexity of your business, a business continuity plan can be easier than you think. One of the more critical areas of disaster protection will be your IT operations. Chamber Passes Resolution on Pension Reform

On October 25, the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors unanimously approved a resolution on Public Employee Pension Reform, which was previously approved by the Chamber’s Public Policy Committee.

At the Board meeting, Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce Public Policy Committee Chair Mark Segal presented the resolution after providing an update on the Committee’s recent support of pension reform, which includes shifting cost of local pension obligations to downstate and suburban school districts from the State and supporting the proposed constitutional amendment regarding pension and retirement benefit increases, which was defeated on November 6.
