Public Policy Advocacy Report: Special Update

Minimum Wage Bill Approved in Committee; But Not Expected to Advance this Session

Yesterday the Senate Executive Committee held a hearing on SB 1565, minimum wage bill. Despite concerns from the business community, the committee voted 9-4 to pass the bill.

The Chamber participated in the hearing and opposed the bill. Additionally, Senator Matt Murphy provided compelling support for opposing the legislation during his questioning of the witnesses.

After the committee meeting, the Chamber learned that the sponsor, Senator Kimberly Lightford, is expected to hold the bill for now in order to allow for further discussions among both proponents and opponents of the measure.
