From the President’s Desk: Will you be at the Annual Meeting?
Summer feels far away and, on many days, so does spring. But whatever the weather, the calendar is about to turn to June, and to the Chicagoland Chamber and its members that means an important event is here.
Of course, the Chamber is known for its events–thought leadership, educational, networking. We do about one-hundred each year. If there’s a topic relevant to business, we are your source for learning and sharing. But the event twelve days from now, the Annual Meeting of Membership, is different.
The Annual Meeting is different because it’s about the Chamber members. It’s about YOU. It’s about what happens in any given year when 1,100 businesses join the common cause of making the Chicago region a world-class place to live and work, and to constantly be improving upon ourselves. We grow tighter as a business community. Our community writ large grows stronger as a place to do business. And one by one, our individual companies and our families thrive in new ways.
This year’s Annual Meeting is our 113th. And this year yielded results. We created personal connections between executives; connections between businesses and policymakers; and new links to international delegations and the markets they represent. The Chamber raised companies’ institutional knowledge through industry forums and professional development. We boosted workforce development. And we cultivated the next generation of business leaders.
The Annual Meeting, on the morning of June 6th at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, is the Chicagoland business community’s signature event. It is a celebration of you. Your presence is both important and much appreciated. Consider bringing colleagues and clients. Register for a table. Your guests will be impressed with the work and influence of the Chamber, and of the 700-strong crowd in the room. Not just the quantity of the business people, but the quality.
Chef Rick Bayless, winner of the highest honor at last month’s James Beard Awards, will deliver the Keynote Speech at this year’s Annual Meeting. Mayor Emanuel also will address Chicago’s business ecosystem.
The Chicago region’s business community is strong, and getting stronger. Let’s celebrate that together on June 6th. And keep it going. I look forward to seeing you there.
