From the President’s Desk: The Votes are In…Now What?

The elections are over and you’re now asking, what’s next?  The national and local elections hint at a strong desire for action to solve the challenges we face.

Regardless of any particular electoral outcome, the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce remains steadfastly focused on you, our members, by providing the resources, programs, and advocacy on which you’ve come to rely.

For our members who export, have facilities in foreign countries, or who see expansion outside the US as a growth opportunity, know that the Chamber’s support for the Export-Import Bank, multi-lateral trade agreements, and engaging with foreign delegations remains a priority focus.  We are your connection to global markets and will continue to bring you resources, programming, networks and information to help you grow your business. You may recall we hosted U.S. Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker for a discussion about the Trans-Pacific Partnership and how to make our ports more efficient in processing the flow of goods. We also hosted Export-Import Bank Chairman Fred P. Hochberg for a candid dialogue about the benefits of the EXIM Bank to the Illinois economy. We will look for similar opportunities with the new administration.

The Chamber’s Council on Logistics and Transportation is already planning to advocate at the national and state level for infrastructure investment.  Chicago is the heart of the rail and air transportation network in North America; we know there is no better economic engine than investing in our critical transportation infrastructure. Learn more about the first meeting here, including our bi-partisan congressional panel.

And Chicagoland remains a great place to do business even with the challenges that have come over the past two years.  We are celebrating our region’s strengths with the launch of Mid-Market Chicago, a program dedicated to ensuring your middle market business thrives and grows.  Join us for the launch event on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 to see how the Chamber is a great resource for navigating change.

The Chamber has been around for 112 years.  We will be your voice, your champion, your partner  regardless of the oftentimes contradictory and uncertain results of our elections.

Daniel H. Burnham Award Dinner

On November 3rd the Chicago business community celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the Daniel H. Burnham Award. More than 500 people honored this year’s awardee, W. James McNerney, Jr., the retired Chair, President, and CEO of the Boeing Company.

The evening brought together business people from companies in all industries, and of all sizes, to pay tribute both to Jim and our past Burnham honorees. It also showcased our community’s strong support for the work of the Chicagoland Chamber, and provided funds for programs that improve the Chicago region as a place to live and do business.
