From the President’s Desk:

Chicagoland — There Is No Place Better

Headlines don’t often tell the true story.  Behind every article about pension debt, our Mayor is making difficult decisions to ensure pension security for future generations.  For every headline about violence, there are dozens of untold stories about community leaders standing up to fight for safe streets and economic opportunity in their neighborhoods.  And while it sometimes feels like government is failing us, make no mistake, dozens of smart, committed elected leaders are working to ensure our city, region and state remain strong, competitive and thriving.

But we also know there are cracks in the system and that our state and region can be doing better.  That is why your Chicagoland Chamber works with leaders in the seven county region to advance collaboration and growth through trade, focused manufacturing investment, and mobility and logistics.  That is why we are partners with the Illinois Farm Bureau on the FARM Illinois program to ensure Illinois remains a global leader in agriculture education, production, manufacturing, and innovation.  That is why we have doubled down on our Small Business Development Center (SBDC)—at a time when SBDC’s are closing in other areas due to reduced state funding—to ensure neighborhood-based businesses have support to grow, add jobs, and that they remain an active part of this vibrant city’s economic base.

Our work as business leaders to support the greater economic community has never been more important.  Whether you are a global corporation, middle market firm, or a neighborhood entrepreneur, each of us has a role in reducing crime, creating jobs, investing in economic opportunities and shouting our successes from the rooftop.

For those of you who are members and supporters of the Chamber, THANK YOU for all you do.  For those of you considering membership, I invite you to join the excitement and be part of our collective success.
