The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce joins the nation in celebrating Juneteenth, a day of immense significance for Chicago — and our country. On June 19, 1865, news of emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Texas, marking the end of a dark chapter in American history.

Juneteenth also serves as a powerful reminder that the fight for racial equality continues. Systemic barriers have long disadvantaged Black communities across Chicagoland, hindering economic mobility and access to opportunity. We acknowledge this history and the ongoing struggle against racism.

“As the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, we recognize our responsibility to dismantle these obstacles,” says Jack Lavin, President and CEO. “Chicago’s business community has a powerful voice, and we will use it to advocate for policies that promote economic equity.”

The Chicagoland Chamber closes its doors on June 19 to honor this day, but we also understand there’s much more to be done. By actively supporting Black businesses and leaders, we not only unlock their potential but also strengthen the economic future of Chicagoland. This Juneteenth, let us recommit ourselves to building a truly just and equitable future for all Chicagoans.
